I wanted to take time to collect my thoughts and speak from the heart rather than spew out some cliché anecdote about a tough loss. I know I am a better fighter than the way I performed that night and was heartbroken to not give more to those who have been inspired. However, I find some relief in knowing that this has never been only about me, and now more than ever I feel freedom to learn and grow at my own pace. I make it a point to constantly remind myself throughout this journey who I am, what I am doing, and why. Life is the most amazing gift and I want to live it for the right reasons. To my family, coaches, management... thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me, loving and encouraging me. Also a special thanks to the fans who support me from their computers at home, watch me on television and scream for me in the stadiums. Because of you, barriers have been broken down and you have inspired me to believe in a larger dream. Congratulations to Cris Cyborg and the women of MMA who have a great platform to shine. I am more excited than ever for female fighters and this amazing sport which has transformed my life. God Bless.
Gina, you're an awesome fighter and truly a great inspiration to all of us MMA fans. Keep up your hard work :) I think I speak for everyone when I say that I would love to see Carano vs Cyborg II
Well said indeed! Us fans will continue to support you no matter what. Champions are determined by their ability to bounce back from defeat ;) We still believe in you. You have done amazing things for womens mma. I have faith in you, I have no doubt you can come back stronger from this and in some time challenge Cyborg again and come out on top then. Just keep doing what you love, and well be here to back you up
It is very important to stay true to your self no matter what, sometimes with all the fans, media, sponsorship and hype people get lost. It nice to see you more focused than ever.
Gina you're absolutely amazing. I saw one of your fights two years ago and fell in love with the sport. I know it may sound crazy but I hope to be like you when I am older. I am glad to see that you're doing well and taking time to yourself and being with your family. I will always be a BIG fan of yours and no doubt your real fans will always be waiting here for you. Can't wait to see you get back in the cage, much love.
win or lose, belt or no belt, you'll always be the best in my eyes. you've got the greatest heart in the sport and an even greater sense of humanity that makes you larger than anything you take part in.
Thnx 4 letting us know you're still alive and well(well, in a matter of speaking lol) Anyway I, like most people, can't wait for your next fight! As Kanye says in his song:That that doesn't kill us, makes us Stronger!!!!! Thank You for being an AwEsOme role model 4 us!!!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to add that I really find your humbleness(that's a word, right?) pretty amazing. It's rare to see someone truly thankful to God for everything they've been blessed with in life; even rarer when they're big and successful like yourself.
I just wanna see your next fight. :) I know you'll kick ass and take names again soon.
Oh, and, *ahem* everyone should visit Gina-Carano.org.
thanks for the update, it was definitely from the heart, and I have so much respect for you as a fighter. I look forward to your next fight, and I know that you will continue to grow and improve as a fighter and can take your loss as another tool to learn and develop!
You told us you were "heartbroken to not give more to those who have been inspired." That is the MOST inspiring thing you give us all: the grace, class and selflessness that you have exhibited in this circus that has become your life! You've GIVEN more than your share, and whatever comes next for you, whether it's in the ring or out, I pray you'll always have such a strong sense of yourself and your faith. For my part, I'll try to follow your example (and a few others) and try to be a little more graceful in mydefeats and humble in my victories! Hang loose and enjoy your "detox"! ;)

At the end of the day, there's only two people you really have to answer to and that's God and yourself. You do whatever you have to do...we're not going anywhere. ;)

Keep ya head up Gina! You still represented. Sometimes disappointments teach us the most about ourselves, and ultimately makes us all better human beings.
For wot it's worth, I wouldn't want fight that dude, and what i saw from you showed that you have the potential to get the best of her another night...
You go, girl! This is an awesome and inspiring statement. I'm so proud of you. :) Just do what you got to do, we're right here to support you :) God bless.

Thank you for this update. It's good to know that you are doing well despite what has happened the past few weeks.

I'm not going to lie to you, Gina. I was feeling your pain when you lost. But I know that you will bounce back from this and continue to make waves in Women's MMA. And I, and all of your fans have been and always will be behind you, win, lose, or draw.
I'm looking forward to your return to the octagon again. Nothing but love and respect for you, Gina...."Convictionite 4 Life".

you go gina! i have tons respect for you and you inspire me so much. im a girl and i also plan on becoming a professional mma fighter. keep doing what you do, and whatever you plan on doing in the future, i'll always be here rooting you on. girl power!
Gina, you are absolutely amazing! I cannot wait to see how much more AWESOME you will be when you come back. You are such a strong fighter and even stronger woman, I know there are a lot of women who appreciate everything that you've done so far and cannot wait to see what else you are so capable of accomplishing. Including myself, be strong girl dont let those stupid negative comments get to you. Come back soon! Your fans will be right behind you! Love you Gina! <3
Hey Gina - thank you for Hey Gina – thanks for checking in. Don’t feel too bad about not performing as well as you would’ve liked. Just look what you’ve done so far:
1) Become one of the most popular and legitimate female athletes in the *world*.
2) Brought world-wide attention to women’s participation in what will be the biggest sport in the world, and opened the door for women behind you to keep it going along with you.
3) Proved that a woman can be a tough, competitive athlete in MMA, as well as an attractive, beautiful woman.
4) Been a classy, well spoken ambassador for womens sports, as well as sportsmanship in general.
You’ve accomplished so much all ready, I hope you are proud of yourself. And, for the record…you had her. ;) Some things one can learn from big failures (speaking from experience) is how *you* react to adversity, how those around you react and which ones really care about you, and what you want. Regardless of what is in your future, you have earned lots of respect, and your real friends, family and fans will stick with you because they want to be part of your journey, not the hype. Best of luck!
Nobody goes undefeated in MMA. I think having this one lost under your belt will make you a refocus and more experience fighter down the road. Continue success and God Bless 'Conviction' You're always be #1 to me! =]
I can only imagine the pressure you found yourself under, so early into your career. They essentially put the entire Women's MMA movement on your shoulders, so I understand the relief you must feel, not having to take that on all by yourself anymore.
While I hope you stick with the sport, best of luck in anything you try your hands at. Just make sure you take care of you and don't let them railroad you into a rematch right away if it's not what you want. Cheers!
Gina even if i'm at home watching at my pc I still scream for you!!! Thank you for the update we have been worried on how have you been. now i'm glad your ok. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPEN I STILL SUPPORT YOU
i am gonna be different. You are good but you need to apply yourself more than you do. That is the only way to be a true champion. You have it all, and perhaps that is the problem. Truth is, you KNOW you can and will be better. Good luck in the future. Bite the bullet. Be the best you can be.
Yes it was a loss and no one wants to see a loss. I can honestly say I am an even bigger fan now because I want to see what your going to do to "bounce back". Thanks for posting this, best of luck with your training!
I just want to say that I think you are awesome! From what I have seen and heard about you, I love your spirit and attitude. I have your picture on my desktop to inspire me to be better and to always strive to achieve my goals. I also think you are gorgeous. :P God Bless... Charlotte Stevens
Although you didn't have to say anything at all, thanks for letting your fans know your alright. Can't wait to see you climb back in to the cage and show them what your all about. Keep the dream alive!
I was very impressed by your grace in defeat. That speaks volumes about your character. I have said you "took it like a man" , but I've seen many male fighters who have not. Good for you and I look forward to your future fights.
This is why she is the Face of Women’s MMA " Class" I hope all the people hating on her recognize what it is to be a honorable warrior and not just another media puppet.
You Rock Gina! keep on being an inspiration to your self and others

Beatiful woman, beautiful words. Gina, go wherever your spirit takes you, you will always have the support of those who love you. And I include myself as one of them. Love and luck as always.
Well said Gina!! It is great to hear that you are not letting one small loss deflate you. You fought your tail off in there and nobody should feel disappointed in you or your effort, we all know that you can do better and will do much better, you are still young and have great skills, just keep on pushing forward and good things will come to you. Keep improving daily not only as a fighter, but as a person, and you will dominate Cyborg once you meet her again. I have always been impressed with your grace and attitude in victory, now after a defeat I am more impressed. You are an inspiration to many. Keep kicking ass Gina. God Bless and Best of Luck on continued success in the cage and your life.

what is with the myriad multiple posts?! lol....and I haven't seen ONE person "hating" on Gina yet. You guys are acting like her dog died or something.....jesus....lol
The multiple posts are the result of the system being slow to do the update and does not show up for minutes, so ppl press the Save key multiple times. Relax.
not only are u a very beautiful women and one hell of a fighter....u are very gracious to cyborg in defeat and have a very good heart....u r awesome.

We all know that your a better fighter Your a great person AND fighter, your looks is a plus as well lol I know you had a lot of pressure on you for this fight...but just take this as a learning experience. This is only the beginning, I believe that you will come back and take the belt. We all support you
Great to hear from you Gina. As articulate and well spoken as ever. Unfortunately what we wanted to hear most is when you are fighting again. I know it's hard to think about now, just know we love you and support you 100%
Mike
I still hope you will insist on BLOOD testing (urine too easy to beat) for future fights.
Work out a pre-fight agreement with your apponent for testing above and beyond what Strikeforece or the state agencies require..as a citizen in a free country you can do it whether they like it or not. If your apponent is clean, they should have no probs with this arrangement. If they balk......red flag...dont fight them. Just remember, most guys in the sport will not support you on this...lots of them are juicing and dont want to draw attention to the issue. The urine tests are specifically designed as a "token" drug screen that can easiily be beaten, thereby protecting the stars in the sport who take 'roids. Sad.....ps you rule!!.

Gina, thank you for being the great person that you are. You may get the media's attention because you are attractive, but you get the fans' attention because of who you are inside...and thats what makes us fans stand behind you as much as we do! :)
I am one fan that has had his attention brought to women's MMA because I have been a fan of you and your fights. I'm looking forward to seeing other women like Erin Toughill fight, and I'm hoping that Strikeforce does have a tournament so us fans can get familiar with other women fighters out there who want to have a chance to perform for the fans. I'm sure it will be action-packed!!
Of course, I'm also looking forward to your next fight, also. I can't hate on Cyborg because in her interviews she seems like a nice person, also...not some maniac woman who eats raw meat and walks around with a scowl on her face 24/7 (although it may seem like it at first glance lol).
We know you are a better fighter than what occurred that night. We can tell easily that you aren't the type that chases the spotlight. The amount of attention that night would have thrown anyone off, thats for sure! But as long as you keep fighting, we'll keep cheering!
gina i have to say you are a very classy woman,it would be so easy to come out spewing all kind of crazy things,as ive said before you are a great fighter & i know youll use this as a training tool, when 2 great fighters get together and fight sometimes it comes down to who is having a better night at that time, you have brought alot of attention to womens mma,1 you are beautiful no way to avoid that,2 you have alot of skill & a heart of a bear i say bear cause thats my nick name and im partial to bears :),i know we havent seen the last of you, next time i feel outcome will be different, you have brought the attention to womens mma,& now people see the talent the women have, keep your chin up and keep kicking ass,and your not just a pretty face but one hell of an athelete, look forwar to more fights behind you all the way
Great to hear from you. My family looks forward to the rematch. We want to see the fire in your eyes before the fight and your smile after. I think the beast within has just been woken up. I'm feel sorry for your next opponent !
even in defeat you show everyone your a class above the rest, you are an amazing fighter and i cant wait to see you fight next you are an inspiration to us all.
I enjoyed reading the comments at the top of the page. Gina, pure class act. It's always refreshing to see someone as yourself carry themselves so well. And like many of your fans, I would love to see carano-cyborg 2. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing you in action in the future, no matter what the venue.
Gina, nice nice! Gina I know you will be back from this loss and you will learn from it. You had Cyborg fully mounted and you got off and I wondered why when you could of gave her a beat down. I got emotional when you lost that fight. I am looking forward to your next fight and will always be a fan. Paul
Gina, as the previous posts noted, you're a class act. And you're right, you fought for all of us, and you more than contributed to the sport. No one can hold the belt permanantly, it's never about that, it's about doing your best and living up to your potential. In that regard, it was silly for Cris to make the comment she did. Some people's worlds are small. Your world is not. Maybe it got a little too big for one night. But bite it off one piece at a time, and you'll be ok. As you said, go at your own pace, reach your own goals, and be true to yourself. And of course most of all keep believing in yourself, because we all believe in you. Caio.
Well Gina it not over for you anyways. Now remember there many things that fall from us. We accidently lose control over them. Keep your head up and i know you wil. Your still beautiful inside. No one can take that away from you. Adolfo (u.t. of austin)
You never cease to amaze and inspire me. Thank you for being so modest, honest and sincere. You truely are a blessing in this word and set an amazing example for the next generation.
Thank you for sharing a piece of yourself with all of us. I know that cannot be easy. Anything you choose to do, you will succeed, not because of any other reason than your class, drive, and the amazing support, which you may only barely comprehend.
Again, thank you for what you have done and continue to do...can't wait to see your next venture, whatever it may be...from one ex-pro (baseball), to a current pro...I hope to see you back in the ring, fighting your way back to wearing that belt!
Thank you for all you do. You are a phenomenal athlete and person. We have always supported you and will continue to do so. We can only imagine the pressure that an athlete, at your level, has to contend with on a constant basis. We hope you are doing well and take the time to recover in your own, private, way. You are a great fighter and we know that you are here to stay. Hopefully, we get the chance to meet you someday. Maybe even learn some Muay Thai from you :) GINA CARANO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gina As I have mentioned on your my space blog. I have lived and trained with Cus D'Amato the legendary teacher of both the youngest Heavy weight Champions in History
Patterson and Tyson. I have poured over each of your fights and have seen CRITICAL flaws that do not allow you to fight to your fullest potential. I would be willing to come to you (At my own expense) teach you on these matters (at no cost to you) and assure you that you would knock out that other gal inside of two rounds. I seek no regognition or mention in this matter at I am not trying to be fresh. I am an old man. I am also not some fanatic as I had never heard of you untill your weigh-in. Please take my offer seriously. God provides from strange places. Best of luck . tjamesmichaels@gmail.com
you keep punching gina! every of the greatest fighters from silva to GSP have tasted defeated and its made them better.youre still very young and take all the lessons learned and it will make you almost invincible! i believe in you!! i have you on myspace! Step aside women! the best gina is still yet to come!!

You have inspired me in many ways. To fight, to train, and to not do either without saying "I am a Woman". Your loss was heartbreaking, because I knew you felt you had the weight of the world on your shoulders. Nope! The weight was on your fans shoulders (well mine anyway) holding you up, win or lose. Continue to inspire - however that may be.
Ok i got here a little late... 7 days late actually lol. Thanx for the post. I really like to see you fight cuz no matter what you always give a 100 percent, and that's what makes a true champion. Belt or no belt i have a lot of respect for what you have acomplished. Keep up the hard work and have fun in the process. Keep us posted!
All this praise. I don't think it will do you any good. The flashing lights and smiles wont win fights. You needed this lose. You needed to be knocked down. Cause now you have to get up. In a pre-fight interview you complained about how hard your training was. Well you didn't train hard enough. Cyborg was in better shape.
You can beat her. As you can beat anyone. Ditch the glam. Ditch the promotional stuff. Ditch the camera. Disappear into the woods somewhere where people can't find you. Then train. As hard as you can. And gain the viciousness we have seen glimpses of in other fights. Become an animal.
You have broken the glass ceiling. But now you have to fly. So I can tell my future kids about you. And I sure as hell want more to talk about then you being pretty.
if you need a personal trainer then feel free to call me. I am very professional and have trained many athletes, such as.. Mi Hai Chop Chop ( he is current world record holder of fastest knock out, well I mean he was actually the guy that got knocked out) . From Russia I have trained Nivraslowki Papayov ( she just cleans my room) and not to forget Mister Ulassian Bolt Junior (fastest guy in preparing a whopper in Burger King Jamaica) And also from Germany, Gunter Osserwald (MMA fighter, he is currently waxing my old Volkswagen Golf 3 for the 544th time, no matches yet, just wax in... wax out ) and more to come.. so stay tuned..
Anyway, take some rest...
And just like the commercial says...
Keep Walking........ (preferably without the whiskey though)
Winning is not everything, the effort to win is. Hence, and despite this loss, I believe you should be proud of yourself. Defeat can also be part of life. And it applied even for the greatest greatest figures of history such as Julius Caesar or Alexander the Great, Winston Churchill and Arnold Swarzenegger :) ... If all goes well, you will be in the gym after a well deserved rest. Rioooooooooo da Janeiroooooooo hint hint... :) And know in your heart that strength does not come only from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will. I stole that line from some old guy with tiny glasses, and whom lived in India. Some kind of Bollywood star if I am correct... Enjoy life now..There is no defeat, except for those who give up..and for Englishmen whom fail to win the British Wimbledon Tennis Tournament constantly lol

Ps, if you need a personal trainer then feel free to call me.

A loss is always good because then you can come back harder and tougher. Without losing or making mistakes how can we grow and do better ;) And always keep the faith in God and in your yourself.
Gina, I'll say I think you have been awesome in the way you have carried the sport and handled yourself in the process. I thought you fought a good fight and you will be better in your return. I applaud your recent landing of the lead role in "Knockout" by Steven Soderbergh so when you're finished with that come back and skull drag Cyborg for us. Even if you don't then we'll still love you anyway. You can read more of my thoughts on Gina Carano on www.rebelref.com
Gina, you always exhibit such class. You are an excellent spokeswoman for the sport. Although we are all sad that you lost, we all appreciate how you do it so gracefully, and take the opportunity to credit Cris Cyborg as well. Good things will continue to come for you, and good things wil come for the sport of Women's MMA.
I personally am looking forward to your next adventure, whatever that may be.

You make watching the sport HOT & EXCITING! Me and my buds think you are the greatest thing since sliced bread...You could kick our A$$es - but it would be so fun and worth it to wrestle in your sweat. Love ya Girl - Big Perv.
Do you believe you did your best? Did you train enough? Too many other aspects of life on your mind? Interviews, TV, etc. Anyway, it is over and for a few moments you were terrific. She simply overpowered you. A very strong, dedicated fighter. You were gracious as always in your loss as you are in your victories. Proud of you. Nite.
It's good to see you're growing physically mentally and emotionally. Although you didn't take home the win, you took home a lesson. Don't ever lose your spirit Gina, you're amazing!
- "We live by learning and learn through living. Some Rules worth breaking, some mistakes worth making"
Good luck in the future, no matter where it takes you :)
Its been a while since Gina blogged but I for one was floored when I saw her cover pic for ESPN the Magazine. I couldn't be happier for Gina's recent success like landing the lead role for Steven Sodenberg's "Knockout" and then landing a cover on ESPN the Magazine. All of Gina's efforts should be celebrated and her cover as well. Its another barrier broken by both her collective efforts as a mixed martial artist, an entertainer and her amazing beauty.
I can't wait to see her fight again but I don't blame her for putting off fighting to do a Sodenberg movie. A legitimate film for a MMA star. She has surpassed the guys in this aspect. You cannot compare Rampage's "A-Team" movie to anything Sodenberg has ever done. Congratulations Gina.
Right now, even though its really early (like an hour in), Gina is leading in my hottest woman in sports poll. Check it out. I used her mag pic to get it going.
It was like watching rocky 3 you were smiling and taking pictures while cyborg was spiting and sweating like a beast in training.Like rocky three you need to take it back like before.Get raw and mean and buck wild bat shit crazy. We all know you can kick cyborgs ass but you gotta reach down deeper than ever and get mean!!!!!!!!Go for IT!
And by the way "Gina"...We live in "Vegas" too. Thank You for the inspiration that you have given my girls. Your not only their favorite, but ours too. My little 8 year old son is like, "Your his Total Idol". I have a "Slise Show" at "Slide.com"...I hope you get a chance to check it out someday. Thank You...Jeff Bryant rider4christ@charter.net
I still love you gina. whatever happens win or lose still your no.1 fan. being a female fighter is such a big inspiration not only for female aspirants but to us men like me who admire not only for your beautiful face and great skills but being you as a whole person.
MMA Record: Prior to her 8/15/09 fight: 7-0 (1 KO; 2 TKOs; 1 submission and 3 decisions)
Gym: Xtreme Couture Las Vegas
Trainers: Randy Couture - MMA; Chris Ben Tchavtchatze and Gil Martinez - Boxing; Scott Bieri - Jujitsu; Master Toddy - Muay Thai
Fighting Style: Muay Thai, Boxing, Jujitsu
MMA Backstory/Career:
I started training when I walked into Master Toddy's gym in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was going to school and had no real solid direction in my life. Muay Thai gave me something to focus on. I started going twice a week, then three times a week and before I knew it, I was in the gym everyday soaking in all the information I could handle. I had my first fight 6 months after I started and from that point I compiled a record of 12 wins 1 loss and 1 draw.
At that time, I was attending the University of Nevada-Las Vegas planning on graduating with a Psychology degree. But doors started opening for me and I found myself in a situation where I had to choose one or the other. School or fighting? Since I was much more passionate about Muay Thai, I withdrew from my classes and began to travel around the world to fight and participate in fight events. It opened my eyes and gave me a whole new education. I traveled to Thailand 4 times and fought twice. I loved it.
I fought in a K-1 match in Las Vegas at the Mirage and frequently fought at what used to be the Stardust in Las Vegas. I was then offered the opportunity to fight in the first ever sanctioned MMA bout in Nevada against Leiticia Pestova. I won that match in 39 seconds. My third fight was against Elaina Maxwell, was also the first time a well-known MMA promotion, StrikeForce, was to have females on their card in December 06'. I won by unanimous decision. I was then signed to the (then) up-and-coming promotion, Elite XC , and was offered the first televised female MMA fight to be shown on Showtime.
After that, came other opportunities - I was a part of an independent film called "Ring Girls" and a reality show called "Fight Girls". I was a featured as “Crush” on American Gladiators for two seasons on NBC. I was the character of the Russian sniper “Natasha” in the EA game “Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3”. I was in a Pepsi commercial that aired during the 2009 Super Bowl and chosen as #16 on the 2009 Maxim Hot 100 list which lead to a marketing campaign for General Motors. I’ve been a guest on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson Show, NBC’s TODAY Show, featured on Warrior Nation (MSNBC) and featured on ESPN’s “I’d Do Anything” reality show.
I consider myself incredibly blessed to be in the position I am in. And I want to thank everyone who has helped me to get where I am today.

Hang loose and enjoy your "detox"! ;)

I'm not going to lie to you, Gina. I was feeling your pain when you lost. But I know that you will bounce back from this and continue to make waves in Women's MMA. And I, and all of your fans have been and always will be behind you, win, lose, or draw.

You are a great fighter and we know that you are here to stay. Hopefully, we get the chance to meet you someday. Maybe even learn some Muay Thai from you :) GINA CARANO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love.

Ps, if you need a personal trainer then feel free to call me.

As a sportsfan, am really proud of your past achievements.

You did not disappoint anyone with your last fight. What should matter is what it means to you and how you perceive this part of your career. A loss is always good because then you can come back harder and tougher. Without losing or making mistakes how can we grow and do better ;) And always keep the faith in God and in your yourself.
Look forward to your next fights!!
