Arizona State lands highly touted Colorado running back transfer

The Arizona State Sun Devils’ running back room just got even more loaded, as the team landed a commit from former Colorado and Houston transfer Alton McCaskill IV.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound McCaskill won AAC Freshman of the Year at Houston in 2021 after rushing for 961 yards, recording 113 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns total. He set a Houston true freshman record for rushing touchdowns.

Then, McCaskill transferred to Colorado from Houston, but suffered a knee injury and redshirted the 2022 season. He served as a backup in 2023, recording 14 carries and 59 yards in Deion Sanders’ offense.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, McCaskill expects to have three years of eligibility remaining, citing a medical redshirt in 2022 and a traditional redshirt in 2023.

Arizona State is already returning its top-3 leading rushers from last season in Cameron Skattebo (783 yards), DeCarlos Brooks (259 yards) and Kyson Brown (106 yards). Former USC running back Raleek Brown also transferred to the school this offseason and figures to be near the top of the mix in the running back room, as he was 247 Sports’ No. 3 running back in the country in the 2022 class coming out of high school.

ASU will also be adding incoming freshman RB Jason Brown of O’Dea High School in Seattle, who is the team’s highest rated 2024 commit on 247 Sports.

Safe to say, the Sun Devils will have a surplus of running backs, not only for this year, but years to come, with the addition of McCaskill.
