Deion Sanders landed a huge coaching hire this week. The 4-7 Colorado Buffaloes might have underwhelmed in Sanders’ first season, but the team is trying to build for the future.
They added a coach to the staff that can help build the defensive line.
According to Mike McDaniel with Sports Illustrated, Sanders confirmed he hired Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp to the coaching staff for next season:
Although the announcement has yet to be made official by the school, Sanders announced the pending addition during his weekly coach’s show this week.
“I’m excited about coach Sapp,” Sanders said Wednesday. “He’s a dear friend that I love to life, and he’s going to be invaluable to what he brings to the table … as far as the recruits as well, they’re going to love him.”
It’s unclear what role Sapp will officially have at Colorado. One would assume he’d help with the Buffaloes defensive line. After all, Sapp earned All-Pro honors six times in the NFL.
The defensive line has been a focus for Colorado on the recruiting trail. Colorado has four defensive line commits for the 2024 class. They have 10 commits total so far for 2024.
