Infamous former Yankees outfielder gets DFA'd by his new team

The grass was not much greener on the other side for a former New York Yankees outfielder.

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Monday that they have designated struggling veteran Aaron Hicks for assignment. They have selected the contract of infielder Cole Tucker from AAA in a corresponding move.

Hicks, 34, just signed with the Angels over the offseason. But he fell flat on his face during his 18 games as a Halo, batting .140 with a comically bad .415 OPS (including going 2-for-27 in his last nine games).

Yankees fans might get kick out of the news as Hicks was a real anti-favorite in New York. Hicks, who played for the Yankees from 2016-23, was regularly jeered by the Bronx faithful thanks to his poor performance at the plate and especially because of his many blunders in the outfield.

The Yankees decided to DFA Hicks in May of last year. He then finished out the season with the AL East rival Baltimore Orioles and did far better with a .275 batting average over 65 games. But the Orioles let Hicks leave as a free agent after the season, and with the Angels now moving on from him as well, Hicks still has yet to find a permanent home ever since.
