Stephon Gilmore makes notable statement about his future

Veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore remains a free agent and he is not necessarily guaranteeing he will land with a new team for the 2024 season.

Gilmore told NFL reporter Josina Anderson that he still intends to play in 2024, but is determined to wait for the right opportunity. If he does not get it, he suggested he is happy to remain on the sidelines and watch his son play.

“I’m still focused on playing, but it has to be the right opportunity,” Gilmore said. “I feel like it’s the age thing with some of these teams. If I was 28, I would already have been signed by now. At the same time, I know the value I still bring. If you watch the tape, I feel like I played well the last two years, and literally almost played every snap last year. So I’m staying patient, while watching my son who’s a wide receiver and cornerback lock people up on the field with his defensive back skills too.”

There are certainly players that want to play with Gilmore, but it does not necessarily sound like the veteran is eager to walk into a rebuilding situation. He has certainly earned the opportunity to be very picky in terms of which teams he might want to play for.

Gilmore spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys and started all 17 games for the team. He made 68 total tackles and intercepted two passes with Dallas.
