Bobblehead theft thwarts Penguins' Jaromir Jagr celebration

Where were you during the great bobblehead heist of 2024?

On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced their planned Jaromir Jagr bobblehead giveaway has been delayed after the shipment of wobbly-headed figurines was stolen.

"We were shocked to be a victim of cargo theft and we are working closely with local and federal authorities on the investigation," said Kevin Acklin, Penguins president of business operations, via NHL.com.

Per the Penguins news release, "all fans in attendance will receive a voucher...to pick up the bobblehead at a later date."

Jagr played a remarkable 24 seasons in the NHL, including his first 11 with the Penguins, where he ranks in the top five in franchise history in games played, goals and assists.

An all-time hockey great, Jagr was announced in January as an inductee into the International Ice Hockey Federation's Hall of Fame.

At 51, he's amazingly still playing professionally in Czechia for the Kladno Knights, and he has four assists in 15 games this season.

While his bobblehead is rightfully a hot item, is there a huge demand for those on the black market?

Per Work and Money, a 1961 New York Yankees bobblehead has a valuation of $59,750, so maybe.

Another possibility is that the theft is the work of the Pens' in-state rival Flyers.

Their mascot, Gritty, "confessed" to the crime on social media with a gif of Diana Riggs' "Game of Thrones" character, Olenna Tyrell.

As authorities search for the culprit, we'll patiently wait for the Netflix true-crime doc that will probably come out of this.
